Buying new, I like American Apparel and bamboo t-shirts. Thrift stores have always been one of my favorite places. I have to admit I'm a fan of bespoke custom suits and nice shoes; some call it "dandyism." But that's green too; paying that much for some cut-and-sewn wool or vegetable tanned leather, you will not be replacing it anytime soon.
I like old stuff. Classic, time-worn designs...furniture, cars, bicycles, houses, souls. Because it's old, I probably won't readily tire of it, and I appreciate the stories it might have were it able to speak. If I do tire of it, I will sell or give it away for a new caretaker to enjoy. Some new things are nice though, like iPhones and air conditioning. As you say, one must be mindful of all you say and do.
LIFE is LIVING is a national campaign that utilizes a new form of green spoken storytelling — one that represents the diverse and changing perspectives on what it means to be environmentally just. For more information, visit http://www.lifeisliving.org. Please support their efforts.
